In May of 1973, the Friends of the Library held its first book sale, with many more to follow.  Over the years, the location for the sales have changed but the purpose remained the same, to raise funds to support library programs and recycle books back into the community at bargain prices. The three-day sales are currently held every quarter in the Downtown Library.  Thousands of books are for sale and hundreds of visitors regularly attend each sale.  

Our sales require a huge inventory of books, DVDs, audiobooks, and other items.  After many years of using a number of different locations to store inventory, in 2016 the Friends purchased a warehouse to receive donations and store inventory.  Every Thursday, volunteers organize and sort donated books by genre and place them into storage boxes.  Before each sale, hundreds of boxes of books are loaded into a moving truck and delivered to the Downtown Library.  Volunteers then unpack the boxes and stack books onto tables.  These sales require a lot of planning and a great deal of hard work.  We have many dedicated volunteers who work all during the year organizing and managing our substantial inventory.  As always, we welcome new volunteers at our book sorting warehouse and at our book sales.
