BOOK STORE NEWS! The Southwest Library Branch’s Book Store is now affiliated with the Friends of the West Florida Public Library! The store is open when the library is open and book prices start at $1.00. The Branch is located at 12248 Gulf Beach Highway, Pensacola, FL, 32507.
BOOK SHOPPING NEWS: The Friends’ will be particpating at the Books on the Bay Fest event on March 28 and our next Big Book Sale will be held the last weekend of April.
If you need a book for your spring reading, or for a gift, stop by one of the Friends’ Book Stores! They are in the Downtown Branch on N. Spring Street, the Tryon Branch and the Bellview Branch – AND NOW – the Southwest Branch!

FRIENDS’ FALL BIG BOOK SALE
The Friends of the West Florida Public Library’s FALL Big Book Sale is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25, 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 26, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; and the Sunday, Sept 27, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Fall Big Book Sale will be held in the No. Spring Street library branch and it will include hardback and paperback books, audio books, music CDs and DVDs. Selections cover a wide variety of genres including plenty of family-friendly options.

SPECIAL EVENT: Dolly Parton Inspired Book Give Away for Kids (babies to age 18). Each child/teen who attends the Sale on Saturday will be encouraged to pick a book to keep at no cost. That book will be a gift from the Friends! The Friends share Dolly’s desire to encourage a life-long love of reading by helping kids grow their personal library.

Admission: Friday is FREE for Friends’ members and $5.00 for general admission.

Friends’ 2026 Annual Meeting
The Friends of the West Florida Public Library will hold their Annual Meeting on Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m. to report the annual accomplishments to the general membership. Topics cover a financial report of money raised in the sales and the stores, capital improvements to the Friends’ warehouse, and the Acting Library Director will give a report on the library’s year.
The new slate of Board officers is voted on and the Friends will make a financial presentation to the Library.
Local author, Duel Christian will then present.
Duel Christian grew up immersed in Pensacola’s history. According to the web site, Seville Savories Food Tour, his grandmother, Mary Wesley, was the president of the Pensacola Historic Preservation Society. Christian was “voluntold” to attend all things historical; reenactments, lectures, archeology digs, as well as cleaning, mopping, and dusting the Quina House Museum from time to time.
He spent his adult years in the television industry, nearly three decades. In that time he was involved in over 300 episodes of cooking shows, beginning as a camera operator, working his way through all positions of audio, graphics, directing, and writing/producing. He learned how to cook on a TV set. For nearly twenty of those years, Christian wrote/produced/and directed TV commercials, mostly regional however some were seen nationally. Striking out on his own, Christian was a freelance writer for a time, writing for magazines, websites, newspapers, but the bulk of it was content marketing copy for businesses.
Christian’s first book, “Pensacola Flavor: A Culinary History With Recipes,” tells the story of Pensacola through the recipes of the people who forged out a living on Florida’s frontier. He is currently working on his next nonfiction food history book as well as developing his first work of fiction.

The 2026 Members’ Meeting will be held in the library branch on No. Spring Street (same location as our Big Book Sales) at 1:30. Our speaker will be gin at 2:30. Light refreshments will be provided. Memberships may be renewed or started while you are there.
