About Us

“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”
– Cicero, Roman statesman and lawyer

Founded in 1973, the Friends is a 501(c)3 organization that has supported Escambia County’s public libraries for the past 51 years by raising funds to help our libraries meet their goals and advocating for library issues.  We believe in helping our library provide free access to information and books for both children and adults.  The library also provides computer labs, internet access, learning programs and focused activities in support of STEM and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics).  We also participate in lobbying governmental agencies when the library is faced with budget reductions or other negative changes that impact programs or services provided to the community.  The Friends organization does not have any paid staff. Our volunteers and board members work thousands of hours each year because of their commitment to literacy and dedication to our community.
