FRIENDS’ ANNUAL MEETING and SPEAKER
POSTPONED DUE TO THE STORM – New Date TBD
Friends of the West Florida Public Library will hold their Annual Meeting on (POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER) at 1:30 p.m. to report the annual accomplishments to the general membership. Topics cover a financial report of money raised in the sales and the stores, capital improvements to the Friends’ warehouse, and the Acting Library Director will give a report on the library’s year.
The new slate of Board officers is voted on and the Friends will make a financial presentation to the Library.
Local author, Duel Christian will then present.
Duel Christian grew up immersed in Pensacola’s history. According to the web site, Seville Savories Food Tour, his grandmother, Mary Wesley, was the president of the Pensacola Historic Preservation Society. Christian was “voluntold” to attend all things historical; reenactments, lectures, archeology digs, as well as cleaning, mopping, and dusting the Quina House Museum from time to time.
He spent his adult years in the television industry, nearly three decades. In that time he was involved in over 300 episodes of cooking shows, beginning as a camera operator, working his way through all positions of audio, graphics, directing, and writing/producing. He learned how to cook on a TV set. For nearly twenty of those years, Christian wrote/produced/and directed TV commercials, mostly regional however some were seen nationally. Striking out on his own, Christian was a freelance writer for a time, writing for magazines, websites, newspapers, but the bulk of it was content marketing copy for businesses.
Christian’s first book, “Pensacola Flavor: A Culinary History With Recipes,” tells the story of Pensacola through the recipes of the people who forged out a living on Florida’s frontier. He is currently working on his next nonfiction food history book as well as developing his first work of fiction.

BOOK STORE NEWS! The Southwest Library Branch’s Book Store is now affiliated with the Friends of the West Florida Public Library! The store is open when the library is open and book prices start at $1.00. The Branch is located at 12248 Gulf Beach Highway, Pensacola, FL, 32507.
2027 BOOK SHOPPING NEWS: The Friends’ will be offering three 3-Day Big Book Sales, one 2-Day Summer Multimedia Sale as well as participating at Pensacola’s Books on the Bay event on March 20, 2027 and our next Big Book Sale will be held the last weekend of April.

The Friends’ Winter Big Book Sale is coming! Friday, Jan. 29, 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 30, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 31, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This Book Sale will also include children’s books, Young Adult books, audio books, paperbacks, music CDs and DVDs. Selections cover a wide variety of genres including fiction, nonfiction, cook books, graphic novels, books about crafts and travel and plenty of family-friendly options. The sale includes specialty sections such as some large print books, books in other languages, books by local authors or about Pensacola and a special section for collectible titles.
Winter Sale Highlights:

This Multimedia Sale will also include audio books, music CDs and DVDs. Selections cover a wide variety of musical genres. Audio books include fiction, nonfiction, children’s titles, etc. There will be plenty of family-friendly options. The Friends’ Store will be open with books and puzzles.
